Springsteen at Fenway Rumors Heat Up For August 2012

14 Feb

Bruce Springsteen last performed at Fenway Park in 2003.

Yes, the spring leg of Bruce Springsteen’s 2012 world tour hasn’t started yet, but that doesn’t stop the rumor and conjecture about the summer leg. And if the scuttlebutt is true, the Boss is favoring ballparks when he gets home from Europe: A September Wrigley Field show has been long rumored, and now both the Boston Courant — a city weekly that usually gets these things right — and boston.com are reporting a Fenway Park stand is pending for Aug. 11, and possibly the 12th also.

Springsteen was of course the first rocker to play in the venerable ballpark, doing two shows in September 0f 2003. And with this being Fenway’s 100th anniversary season, it seems only appropriate that he make a return trip.

Of particular interest, though, is the wording of the boston.com blurb:

Bruce Spingsteen is back with a new record, and we’re told his March 26 tour date at TD Garden may not be your only chance to see the Boss in Boston. Word is Springsteen, who played at Fenway Park in 2003, is eyeing a return to the ballpark Aug. 11 — a Saturday night when the Sox will be in Cleveland.

Notice how they spell Bruce’s last name — that also happens to be the nom de plume of one @Boss1949, who you may have seen live tweeting the Grammys last night. This only confirms what we’ve long suspected: That @Boss1949 really is Bruce Springsteen, he left the “r” out to throw us off his trail, and boston.com is on to him because they’re always right. (Actually we just came up with that last part, but it seems feasible.)

But whether it’s Bruce Springsteen or Bruce Spingsteen, we’ll be there — you can count on it. See ya at Fenway!
