Bruce Springsteen, Academy Awards Rating System Snubs the Boss

23 Jan

Thanks to backstreets.com

You have to be kidding me..Is this the biggest load of crap or what? Two songs from Slumlord Millionaire?  I think all of the nominations in all of the categories were whack!

SPRINGSTEEN SNUBBED?
Yep, it was a snub. After some head-scratching and parsing of the Oscar rules below, looks like we’ve got our answer, and thanks to the reader who brought this to our attention. As the Associated Press reports [bold ours]:

In 16 years, Miley Cyrus has enjoyed one success after another. Now, she knows what it’s like to be snubbed. Cyrus’ song from Bolt didn’t get nominated for an Oscar. Cyrus can cry on Bruce Springsteen’s shoulder. His title track from The Wrestlerwas snubbed, too. Beyonce’s song from Cadillac Records didn’t make the cut, either. An academy spokeswoman says songs need to earn a score of at least 8 and a-quarter out of ten to be nominated and the songs by Cyrus and Springsteen scored less than that. Voters instead chose Peter Gabriel’s song from “Wall-E,” and two songs from Slumdog Millionaire.

According to the voting rules, “Nominations will be determined by an averaged point system of voting using 10, 9.5, 9, 8.5, 8, 7.5, 7, 6.5 or 6. Only those songs receiving an average score of 8.25 or more shall be eligible for nomination. There may not be more than five nor fewer than three nominations.”

So “The Wrestler” didn’t rate, it’s as simple — and as baffling — as that. As my dad just said, “must be the same voters that do the Grammys.”

That is fuckin’ bullshit. The wrestler is easily the best song of 2008. The retards at the oscars insist on playing that hindi slum crap. Then they wonder why nobody watches the ceremony anymore.rizzi@videotron.ca

Bruce Springsteen, ‘The Wrestler’, Oscar Snubbed!

22 Jan

How wrong could we have been?  The Academy Award Nominations are in and Bruce Springsteen’s, ‘The Wrestler,’ was not nominated for Best Original Song.   The Golden Globe winning song didn’t seem to pass muster with the members of the Academy  Nominating Committee.  The Academy did nomintate Mickey Rourke for Best Actor and Marisa Tomei for best supporting actress for their roles in The Wrestler.

The nominees for Achievement in music written for motion pictures (Original song) are:

  • Down to Earth” from “WALL-E” (Walt Disney), Music by Peter Gabriel and Thomas Newman, Lyric by Peter Gabriel
  • Jai Ho” from “Slumdog Millionaire” (Fox Searchlight), Music by A.R. Rahman, Lyric by Gulzar
  • O Saya” from “Slumdog Millionaire” (Fox Searchlight), Music and Lyric by A.R. Rahman andMaya Arulpragasam
  • Bruce Springsteen, Academy Awards Nomination
